Yen Nguyen
Age: 49

“Running is a privilege and one should embrace it while he or she can still run.”

On January 26, 1996, Yen Nguyen ran her first marathon–the Houston-Tenneco Marathon. This January 15th will mark her 16 year anniversary of running her first marathon.

“I did not know what the meanings of ‘endurance’ or ‘perseverance’ were until I crossed the finish line of my very first marathon, at the Houston-Tenneco Marathon, with a 5:26 time.”

After that defining day in 1996, Nguyen was hooked. Over the next 16 years, she proceeded to amass finisher medals for over 400 marathons and ultra marathons. She is proud to say that she has run a marathon in every state and twice in Washington D.C. “Running has given me a chance to see the world on my own two feet. I have run in all 13 Canadian provinces and territories, and six Continents. It has provided eight years of enjoyment and a way to see 50 different countries.”
