Young at a recent marathon

Kimberly Young
Age: 46
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Occupation: Chief Financial Officer
Races Completed: 12 half marathons, 2 marathons

Kimberly Young’s running philosophy is simple – she runs because she can. She started running in high school, but it wasn’t until her son reached high school when she felt long distance running was for her.

Running has become Young’s outlet to relieve stress, allowing time to herself and helping her stay healthy and fit. She enjoys reading about the elite runners who inspire her to reach her goals.

“I have been running for a long time, and while I am not an elite runner by any means, I envision the elite athletes that I read about as motivational running buddies,” said Young. “The opportunity to run on the same streets as the athletes competing for a chance to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in London is almost as good as running with them side-by-side.”

Young hopes to qualify for the Boston Marathon at the 2012 Aramco Houston Half Marathon and break the 1:50:00-mark. Her husband and children will travel with her to the Bayou City and cheer her on from the sidelines. Young’s family enjoys traveling with her to races across the country, and when they’re not cheering her on, they enjoy spending time exploring new places together.

For those who don’t run and are considering it, Young says it will change your life.

“I can honestly say that the early morning runs in 90 degree or 30 degree temperatures by myself or with other crazy runners are some of the best times spent enhancing my life physically, emotionally and spiritually. Runners are positive people and who doesn’t want to be a positive person!” said Young.
