At altitude to prepare for Mexico City, Olympic steeplechaser George Young ran 2:30:49 to win the first stand-alone U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon race (and in his debut). It also was the first Olympic Trials race that was also a national marathon championship. It wasn’t until the 1988 Olympic Trials and subsequent Olympic Trials, however, that the Trials were also designated as the national championship.

The 2012 Olympic Trials – Marathon in Houston will be the men’s 12th Trials edition.
