Third Times a Charm: Please see below.
The Houston Marathon Committee has a "third time’s a charm" rule. If a runner registers for the marathon or half marathon lottery and is not selected for two consecutive years, they will be given the opportunity to register for a guaranteed race entry for the following consecutive year.
For example: If a participant has registered for and is not selected in the 2012 and 2013 lotteries, for the 2014 race they will be sent instructions and a time period when they may register for the marathon or half marathon and bypass the lottery.
Eligible participants will be contacted the first week of May 2013 with details, including deadline dates and how to register for the 2014 races.
The 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon has a protected cap of 25,000 participants. Of the 25,000-participant field, 13,000 entries are reserved for the marathon and 12,000 for the half marathon.
The time limit for completing the marathon is six hours and the course will open on a rolling schedule based on a 13:45 per mile pace.
The time limit for completing the half marathon is four hours. Since the marathon and half marathon share part of the course on race day, the half marathon course will open on a rolling schedule based on a 13:45 per mile pace for the first 8-9 miles. The remaining miles must be completed within the final 2 hours of the time limit.

Participants must be at least 12 years old on race day to register for the marathon and 7 years old on race day to register for the half marathon.
