Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Program Information
The Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Program connects the philanthropic community to passionate race participants willing to fundraise and raise awareness for meaningful causes. Since its inception in 1995, more than $32 million has been raised to benefit the various charitable organizations involved with the program. Every year, individuals have the opportunity to select an official Run for a Reason charity partner from a variety of categories that serve constituents based locally, nationally, or internationally. For the 2021 event, runners have the opportunity to choose to partner with one of 61 Official Run for a Reason Charities.
Charity Race Registration Opportunities
Just Fundraise is an opportunity for those that want to support a charity or fundraise on behalf of a loved one to do just that, Just Fundraise.
Individuals interested in this option should apply via the 2021 Charity Registration page for their selected Official RFAR Charity Partner by clicking on their selected organization and choosing the Just Fundraise link. This option will offer the opportunity to create a fundraising page.
Fundraising for Registration and HERO Registrations will no longer be available for the 2021 Virtual Houston Marathon Running Events.
Fundraising for Registration
Fundraising For Registration or FFR, gives the runner the opportunity to fundraise on behalf of an official RFAR charity. In order to participate in this program, the runner will commit to fundraising a minimum (varies by charity), and in exchange, the runner will receive an entry into their desired race. FFR opportunities are available for the Chevron Houston Marathon, the Aramco Houston Half Marathon, and the We Are Houston 5K.
HERO Registration gives the runner the opportunity obtain a guaranteed entry into the Chevron Houston Marathon or the Aramco Houston Half Marathon by purchasing their entry at a reduced price ($140 marathon/$125 half marathon plus processing fees) and making a one-time tax deductible donation of at least $350 to one of the Official RFAR Charity Partner. Additionally, HERO runners will have the opportunity to continue fundraising for their selected charity through a personalized fundraising page.
HERO runners will receive benefits on race weekend including:

• Exclusive Pre-Race Bathrooms
• Post-Race Massage

2022 Official RFAR Charity Partner Application
Applications for the 2022 Chevron Houston Marathon RFAR Program will be accepted September 23, 2020 through October 16, 2020. Information about the program and requirements can be found in the document below. Applying organizations must hold 501 (c) 3 status, have been in operation for a minimum of two years, and serve constituents in the greater Houston area.
Returning charities and new charities that have requested information, will receive the link to the application form the week of September 21.
Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Charity Challenge
Chevron will donate a total of $75,000 to three Official RFAR Charity Partners during the fourth consecutive Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Charity Challenge. The RFAR Official Charity Partners will have an opportunity to win $25,000 in the following categories:
- Greatest Number of Contest Votes During the Voting Period
- Most Money Raised by a Single Charity Organization During the Voting Period
- Highest Number of Donations Made by Individual Donors During the Voting Period

Becoming an Official RFAR Charity Partner
Charity applications for the 2021 Run for a Reason Program are no longer being accepted, however, applications for the 2022 Run for a Reason Program are being accepted through October 16, 2020. Organizations that apply must hold 501(c)3 status, have been in operation for a minimum of two years and serve constituents in the greater Houston area.
