Wade Morehead – Executive Director

Wade Morehead, Executive Director of the Houston Marathon Committee and the Houston Marathon Foundation, has 20 years of sports operations and event management experience.

Wade Morehead, Executive Director of the Houston Marathon Committee and the Houston Marathon Foundation, has 25 years of sports operations and event management experience. Prior to joining the HMC as its first executive director in its 43-year history, he served as Vice President of Operations for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games conducted in Idaho, USA.

A member of the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors and Joint Tourism Committee, Morehead has served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College on occasion since 2013. He has also been a volunteer on the Greater Houston Partnership Parks & Green Space Committee and continues to support Special Olympics International, serving on an international volunteer Games Evaluation Team at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, and the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles, California.

A former member of the USA Basketball Board of Directors (1999-2005), Morehead served in a variety of positions during his 11 years with the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), including four seasons as Deputy Commissioner. He also served two seasons as Senior Director of WNBA Basketball Operations at the NBA League Office and one season as Vice President, Basketball Operations for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Morehead received his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Tulsa and earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from the University of Tennessee. Raised in Littleton, Colorado, he resides in Fulshear with his wife and three sons.
