The Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Program connects the philanthropic community to passionate race participants willing to fundraise and raise awareness for meaningful causes. Individuals can select an official Run for a Reason charity from a variety of categories that serve constituents based locally, nationally or internationally. Turn your fitness goal into something more and Run for a Reason for one of our 62 charity partners.

Since the program’s inception in 1995, more than $24 million has been raised to benefit various charities. For each of the past six years, the Run for a Reason Program has surpassed two million dollars.

How to Become an Official Charity

The 2017-2018 Run for a Reason Charity Application will be available at the end of February with a return deadline of early April – exact dates are still to be determined. To express interest in receiving an application, organizations should contact rfar@houstonmarathon.com or 713-957-3453.

Charity Race Registration Opportunities

HERO Entry

HERO entries are guaranteed registrations into the 2017 Chevron Houston Marathon or Aramco Houston Half Marathon by making a one-time tax-deductible donation of at least $350 to an official Run for a Reason charity, plus the cost of registration.

Fundraising for Registration Entry

Fundraising for Registration entries give runners an opportunity to fundraise on behalf of an official Run for a Reason charity. Fundraising minimums vary by charity, but will not be lower than $500. Individuals interested in fundraising for registration should contact an official charity directly for additional details. Registration code will be provided by the charity upon meeting the fundraising minimum.
