HOUSTON (September 25, 2013) – The Houston Marathon Committee (HMC) announced on Wednesday that Chevron Corporation has renewed its title sponsorship of the annual Chevron Houston Marathon road race, extending their partnership through 2018. The Chevron Houston Marathon is the premier winter marathon and will be conducted by the HMC in downtown Houston on Sunday, January 19 at 7:00 a.m.

“2014 will mark the ninth year that Houston’s largest single-day sporting event will carry our name,” said Jeff Shellebarger, president, Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company. “It’s an important and inspirational event that raises money for many great causes, and we are proud to continue our sponsorship of the Chevron Houston Marathon.”

The 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon will debut a new course that will feature wider streets to accommodate the growth of the event and enhance the runner experience. The Chevron Houston Marathon has sold out for the ninth-consecutive year, however guaranteed race entries are still available through the Run for a Reason Charity Program at www.RunforaReasonHouston.com.

“Since 2006, when Chevron assumed its role as title sponsor, the Chevron Houston Marathon’s weekend of events has experienced phenomenal growth,” said Steven Karpas, HMC’s Managing Director, Business Development & Marketing. “From participant numbers to charity dollars to hosting national championships and Olympic Trials races, Chevron’s support has been instrumental in allowing the HMC to achieve its mission of being a key community partner and an innovator in the national running industry.”
