Runner Profile: James Coligan

Age: 39
Hometown: Houston, TX

Running turned James Coligan’s life around and gave him renewed life. On August 23, 2010, Coligan changed his diet and began his new lifestyle. On that date, he weighed 367 pounds. By February 11, 2011 the scale read 223 pounds; two pounds below his target weight.

“I was helped by the people at Quick Weight Loss Centers. They gave me the meal plans and showed me how to eat properly.”

In addition to a healthier diet, he began walking. Walking led to jogging which led to running. He soon felt ready to challenge himself with a race. Coligan ran his first 5K in October 2010 and completed three more before the end of the year. Coligan graduated to a 10K; running the 2011 ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run. Next up was a half marathon. This past March he chose to run Angie’s Half Crazy in Clear Lake, TX.

“Running relieves my stress and allows me to enjoy some of my favorite foods and drinks without putting the pounds back on. I used to laugh at the people running in the early morning or in the heat of the afternoon; now I am one of those people.” Another big change came when he met his fiancé—to be wed on April 13, 2012. She has become a runner along with Coligan and looks forward to their new life together.
