Oldest of eight siblings raised alone by their mother … After a chance encounter with Peter Rono, the 1988 Olympic gold medalist at 1500m, Cherobon-Bawcom began running and earned an athletic scholarship to Harding University in Arkansas, where she competed in the first real race of her life but went on to become a three-time NCAA Division II Champion and eight-time All-American.
