Thank you for opportunity to RUN as Ambassador for the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon. In my mindset, I have been a runner from the moment I took my first steps. However, it wasn’t until 2008 when I joined a local running program, Power In Motion that I actually started to really “train” for my first 5k! Power In Motion led inspired me so much so that I joined Houston Fit to train for my first marathon: the Chevron Houston Marathon. For the past 5 years, I have volunteered to serve as a coach for both Power In Motion and Houston Fit. Absolutely ~LOVE~ running!
This is my first year to run and on top of that it will be the double – 5k and half! I”m not an expert but am capable of learning quickly.
I started running/walking in Dec. ’12 and have lost 30#. I have exercise-induced asthma so any event is always a challenge. (Coinsidently, I have a stepson with asthma and I try to inspire and teach him that anything is possible).
I am not a competitive runner – I do this for personal reasons and health and as an inspiration to others. At every race I maintain 4 goals – 1. to always finish, to never finish last, to set a new PR and no matter what, I will ALWAYS run across the finish line.
You will find me at running events at least 3 weekends a month. I started off with 5ks and have completed obstacle runs, 10ks and now I’m up to half marathons, all since December.
I am a former wedding planner and not only am I not afraid to meet new people, I am also a go-getter! I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve as an Ambassador!!!
Thank you for your consideration.
I want to be among.
I have different goals than Christine. My goals are to do my best. Sometimes that is a pr and sometimes not. To set a pr my conditioning and training have to be going right. Sometimes I have been injured and have to slow down or stop running for a while to recover. Also the weather plays a big role. If it is warm or hot, slow down. If it is cold, it is on, go get em.
2nd goal of mine is to encourage or help someone along the way. “Your looking good!” “You ok?” “Would you like a gel?”
3rd goal. Run smart. For me that means wear my heart rate monitor. I always want to push to hard at the beginning of the run/race. I need to keep my heart rate under 150. If I go over that for the first half of the marathon I am going to be hurting on the last 6.2. For me it is hard to hold back, especially when the weather is not perfect. So run smart and take what my health, conditioning and the weather provides.
4th goal. Don’t injure myself. Don’t overdo it. Don’t end up back in ER again for over doing it. It makes the wife mad and then she does not want me running.
5th goal. Tell someone Jesus loves em.
Hope this helps you.

My wife and I live in Shreveport, LA and are very involved in the running community. Specifically, my wife is the Head Cross Country Coach at Centenary College, runs a Youth-Fit running club in the summer, coaches a Middle School Cross Country team and a elementary running club. We have both run the Houston Marathon and 1/2 marathon 5 times and have finished in the top 5%-wife and 20%-me. I am an Ironman triathlete and my wife routinely wins 5k races. Furthermore, we are on the Brooks Running Team which is sponsored by Sportspectrum which is our locally owned running / sporting goods specialty store. We are very interested in being an Ambassador for the Houston Marathon. Sincerely, Brad S Armstrong
The Houston Marathon has been very special to me. Every part of the course represents many fond personal and running memories. The crowd and volunteer support has been amazing. To me, Houston 2012 and Houston 2013 will remain as my favorite running moments (even topping Boston 2013).
2014 will be particularly special because I have just return from injuries in 2013 just in time to start training for the 2014 race. My running group, the running community and the Houston Marathon Crowd have been amazing to me. This is my turn to spread that joy and passion to others as well. What an exciting opportunity.
This is my first year running one of the greatest routes in the state of Texas. I can’t wait. I hope I’m selected to run as an ambassador, I share and help others around Dallas to run their best by giving them tips, tricks and sometimes even a massage, lol! I hope I get picked.
