While competing for the University of Colorado, broke the school record for 5000m … Struggled in 2010 with inconsistent training, partly due to an ankle injury … A week after dropping out of the USA Half Marathon Championships last January because of breathing difficulties in “the worst moment of my life,” Vaughn won the USA Cross Country Championships for his first national title. “Finally,” he screamed as he crossed the finish line … Moved from Boulder to Portland this summer to be coached by Jerry Schumacher and train with his group. “I wasn’t beating them, so I guess I had to join them,” he says … Is inspired by Billy Mills and his famous quote, “Believe, believe, believe” … Married to Sara Vaughn, a professional middle-distance runner.
