Each year, the Veterans’ Committee organizes the Pace Teams that help runners achieve their race-day goals.
Hundreds of thousands of runners have participated in the Houston Marathon since the first event in 1972, and many of those runners come back year after year. Some come back every year to support their hometown marathon, some come back because the fast course helps them qualify for Boston, and some come back because of the plentiful fans, large EXPO and great runner goodies.
Whatever the reason, these runners who return year after year are an important part of the Chevron Houston Marathon. To thank these individuals for their contribution to the event’s continued success, the Houston Marathon Committee recognizes them as official Houston Marathon Veterans.
Houston Marathon Veterans are runners who have successfully finished 10 or more Houston marathons. These finishes do not have to be consecutive, but all finishes must be in the marathon event (not the half marathon or 5K).
