The 2012 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon had a protected cap of 24,000 participants. Of the 24,000-participant field, 13,000 entries are reserved for the marathon and 11,000 for the half marathon.
The time limit for completing the marathon is six hours. The course closes on a rolling schedule based on a 13:45 per mile pace.
Participants must be at least 12 years old on race day to register for the marathon.

The Chevron Houston Marathon features a wave start with the first wave starting at 7:00 a.m., 10 minutes before the second wave start at 7:10 a.m. Wave assignments are determined by the projected pace per mile indicated during registration.
Per USATF rules, gun time is used to determine prize money winners and time bonus recipients. Chip time is used to determine all age-group winners and other award recipients. Unofficial results will include gun and chip time.
Both gun and chip time results are sent to the Boston Athletic Association which accepts chip time as a qualifying time. Qualification times earned at our 2011 marathon will be valid for 2011 and 2012 Boston entry. Qualification times earned at our 2010 marathon are valid for 2011 Boston entry.

All registered participants will receive a participation T-shirt at packet pickup. All official marathon finishers will receive a finisher shirt, medal and mug. Uncollected finisher shirts, medals and mugs will not be mailed.
Marathon runners will receive a food ticket on their bib and will be able to exchange that ticket for a delicious breakfast in the H.E.B. Food Court. Breakfast includes eggs, sausage, hash browns, bagels, muffins, cookies, bananas, yogurt, coffee, hot chocolate, sodas and water.

A pace team with goal finish times from three to six hours are led by the Houston Marathon Veterans and is free to join. Stop by the Veterans Pace Team booth during the Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute EXPO to get information or sign up for a pace team. If you do not sign up at the EXPO for a pace team, you are still welcome to join a team on race day.
