2008 USA Half Marathon Championships

Eligibility Requirements for All Athletes

  • Citizenship: In accordance with USATF guidelines, all athletes must be U.S. citizens.

  • USATF Membership: All athletes must be 2008 members of USATF in good standing. USATF memberships may be purchased online www.usatf.org/membership/application, through your local Association Office, or by calling the USATF National Office at 317-713-4665.

  • Minimum Age: Female athletes must be 14 years or older and male athletes must be 16 years or older on the day of competition.

  • Club affiliation: Athletes must be bona fide members of a 2008 USATF club in order to represent a club. Athletes wishing to change affiliations can make such a request through their local Association Office (note that this request must be made by the athlete--see Regulation 7 in the USATF Governance Manual, Section III).

  • There are no performance standards to score in the championship.

  • Athletes who meet the above eligibility requirements but are not entered in the elite division of the Aramco Houston Half Marathon should send their 2008 membership number and name to Jim.Estes@usatf.org to confirm you are properly entered in the national championship division.

Bonus Money Structure

In addition to the prize money, we are offering a cumulative bonus structure to the first runner breaking the existing Race and U.S. Records. The Records and Bonuses are as follows:

Limited resources are available for Lodging and Travel compensation, but Demand will exceed Supply!  Registration before November 1 will greatly improve your chances to secure a hotel room and/or travel compensation.  Qualifying times must be established within the prior 18 months of the 2008 Championship.

Comp Entry:  If space is available, entry to the Championships will be considered with a minimum qualifying time of 1:08:00 for Men and 1:21:00 for Women.

Drug Policy

Athletes who have been suspended for violations of the USATF or IAAF drug policy are eligible to participate in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon and related events if they meet the following criteria:

  • Serve appropriate suspension time.
  • Complete all requirements and conditions for reinstatement by USATF or IAAF.
  • Meet Aramco Houston Half Marathon Elite Athlete Committee qualification standards after returning from suspension.

Athletes who have not met the above conditions will not be eligible for an elite number or any financial assistance.
