CanCare provides one-on-one emotional support to cancer patients and their family members from trained volunteers who know first-hand the physical, emotional, and spiritual turmoil that someone newly diagnosed with cancer is experiencing. Clients are matched by cancer type, treatment method, age, gender, and family situation. CanCare's services are free. CanCare was founded as a non-profit cancer support network in 1990, and has brought its message of Hope to thousands of survivors. Today, over 600 active CanCare support volunteers are busy making a difference in the Houston Cancer community.
Race registrants who wish to Run for a Reason are invited to join Team CanCare, which has been one of the top fundraising charities since it was founded in 1996. Team CanCare members receive incentive awards for reaching fundraising goals, a monthly e-newsletter, and a private, post marathon victory party at Saint Arnold Brewery. Members may dedicate their race to someone who is struggling or has struggled with cancer, and include that information on the "Team CanCare Members" page on our website. You may sign up for Team CanCare when you register for the marathon online or through our web page at www.teamcancare.org.
