The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

In 2009 the estimated number of new cancer cases in Texas is 98,200. 66% of those cases have a 5-year relative survival rate; this is up from 50% in 1977.
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than 3 million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.
We dream of a world free of cancer and together we can fight the battle against cancer and save lives. With every step during our run, with every dollar we receive we are closer to our goal: a world with more birthdays, a world without cancer.

Anita Cromis:
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, I didn't know anything about American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program. A couple years later and a cancer survivor myself, I was asked to become a volunteer. It was one of the best decisions I've made. I truly appreciate the American Cancer Society's goal to make cancer history.
