Pink Ribbons-In motion against breast cancer.

Welcome to Pink Ribbons Project! We are honored to be part of the Houston Marathon Run for a Reason program. As a participant, you will be raising funds for Pink Ribbons Project and our outreach, awareness and education programs. Participants who raise more than $250 by November 1st will automatically receive a special Pink Ribbons Project running t-shirt to proudly where on marathon day!

Pink Ribbons Project was founded by a group of dancers who were individually touched by breast cancer. Through that experience and perspective we have to believe that dance and the other arts:
" can educate and inform the mind in ways that traditional methods cannot
" can move people to action
" can inspire and lift the spirits of those with breast cancer
" can help heal the bodies of those fighting breast cancer
Our mission statement reflects these beliefs: Using the arts, Pink Ribbons Project saves lives and improves the quality of life for those touched by breast cancer.
Our Story . . .
In 1995, Jane Weiner, a professional dancer in New York City, learned that her sister in Houston, Susan Rafte had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Jane joined with friends and fellow dancers David Parker, Sara Hook and Robin Staff to found Pink Ribbons Project, in motion against breast cancer®. Together they produced a fundraiser in New York City to raise money to send breast cancer survivors to testify in Congressional hearings in Washington D.C. That testimony helped to convince the FDA to approve three new cancer-fighting drugs. One of those drugs was Taxotere, a drug Susan would take the next year and which allowed her to improve enough to receive a stem cell transplant in 1997. Today, Susan now an almost 15 year cancer survivor is the Executive Director of Pink Ribbons Project® and works with Jane, the Artistic Director, to educate women about this disease through the medium of dance and art. Pink Ribbons Project® raises money for breast cancer education, screening, advocacy and outreach.

In the past year, Pink Ribbons Project has has impacted the community through the following:
- $200,000 to The Rose Diagnostic Center to partner with Komen Houston in the purchase Mammography Unit for the Sophie Mammography Unit servicing the Greater Houston community.
- $50,000 to partner with Stages Repertory Theatre to co-produce UNBEATABLE: a New Musical (chronicling the journey of a breast cancer survivor).
- $33,000 to collaborate for the third year to Harris County Hospital District for Pink Ribbons Project Saturday Mammography Program, screening about 20 additional women per Saturday.

- $50,000 to University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston to staff the Mobile Mammography Unit for 3 months. The mobile unit had to be garaged when it arrived shortly after the devastation of Hurricane Ike.
